Adafruit BME280 I2C or SPI Temperature Humidity Pressure Sensor (STEMMA QT)

Adafruit BME280 I2C or SPI Temperature Humidity Pressure Sensor (STEMMA QT)

The BME280 measures temperature, humidity and barometric pressure with high accuracy, and can also act as an altimeter. This breakout supports I2C or SPI and includes a 3.3V regulator, level shifting, and STEMMA QT/Qwiic connectors for easy solderless wiring.

Bosch’s BME280 is a compact environmental sensor that measures temperature, barometric pressure, and humidity, making it a great choice for indoor monitoring and weather-style projects. It supports both I2C and SPI, so you can choose simple wiring with I2C or use SPI when you want to avoid I2C address conflicts.

It offers excellent accuracy for a low-cost sensor, measuring humidity to ±3%, barometric pressure to ±1 hPa absolute accuracy, and temperature to ±1.0°C. Thanks to its strong pressure performance, it can also be used as an altimeter, with accuracy of ±1 metre or better.

The BME280 is the next-generation upgrade to Bosch sensors such as the BMP085/BMP180/BMP183, with low altitude noise of 0.25m and the same fast conversion time. It keeps similar specifications while adding the flexibility of both I2C and SPI support.

To make integration easy, the sensor comes pre-soldered onto a breakout PCB with a 3.3V regulator and level shifting, so it works safely with both 3V and 5V logic microcontrollers. The board uses the STEMMA QT form factor, with connectors compatible with SparkFun Qwiic, allowing quick solderless connections or easy sensor chaining with a suitable cable.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 25.2mm x 18.0mm x 4.6mm

Revision History

  • As of Sep 18, 2023 – we've updated this PCB with Adafruit Pinguin to make a lovely and legible silkscreen - you may get the new PCB or the older version with vector fonts - both are identical other than the fancy silkscreen.
  • As of Nov 11, 2020 we've updated this sensor to be STEMMA QT compatible - that means there's now an easy way to plug-and-play this sensor without any soldering! The physical shape has changed, but the pinout is identical to the non-QT earlier version.
