NeoPixel Mini 3535 RGB LEDs w/ Integrated Driver Chip - Black (Pack of 10)

NeoPixel Mini 3535 RGB LEDs w/ Integrated Driver Chip - Black (Pack of 10)

NeoPixel Mini RGB LEDs pack bright colour into a tiny 3.5mm × 3.5mm footprint. This pack of 10 (black casing) is chainable on one data line, needs an 8MHz+ real-time microcontroller, and is best for careful hand soldering only.

These NeoPixel Mini RGB LEDs are a brilliant way to build your own compact, smart lighting designs using the same integrated LED tech found in NeoPixel strips and pixels. Each LED measures just 3.5mm × 3.5mm, making them around half the size of the standard 5mm × 5mm NeoPixels, while still being fairly easy to solder.

The driver chip is built into each LED and uses constant-current drive, so colours stay consistent even if the supply voltage varies — and you don’t need any external choke resistors, keeping your design clean and minimal.

This is the pack of 10 NeoPixel Mini RGB LEDs with a black casing. Minis are also available in a white casing.

These LEDs are chainable, meaning you can connect the output of one to the input of the next (see the datasheet for pinouts and wiring diagrams). They use a single data line with a timing-sensitive protocol, so they must be driven by a real-time microcontroller such as an AVR, Arduino, PIC, or mbed. They cannot be used with Linux-based microcomputers or interpreted microcontrollers like the Netduino or Basic Stamp. Internally they’re essentially a WS2811, fixed at the 800kHz high-speed setting. Adafruit’s Arduino NeoPixel library supports these LEDs, but because it relies on hand-tuned assembly it’s AVR-focused — other platforms may have ports available. An 8MHz or faster processor is required.

These are supplied as raw parts cut from a reel and may be loose. They may not be suitable for pick-and-place or reflow, as LEDs are sensitive to moisture and temperature. They’re recommended for careful hand soldering only. Each pack includes 10 individual LEDs, and there’s also a ready-to-go part available in the Adafruit EAGLE library.
